The Good and Beautiful God

Ben Franklin once wrote to a friend that wine is “a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy!” The same thing could be said about a ripe peach, or a sunrise over the misty bluffs, or the love of a special person.

Yet despite the ever-present proof of God’s love for us, and desire to see us happy, often we tell ourselves a different story: “I’ve got to try harder to earn God’s love and blessing.” Or even, “God is angry and is punishing me.”

We all have ideas about God. Some are true, but many are false. The negative narratives in our heads keep us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love and living our best, most joyful and content  life as followers of Jesus Christ.

We can learn the truth about God by listening to Jesus. Our September and October sermon series will explore what Jesus teaches about God’s nature, and how we are invited to love God and be transformed by God’s love.

We are pairing the series with a small group study using James Bryan Smith’s transformative book, The Good and Beautiful God: Falling in Love With the God Jesus Knows. Smith is an United Methodist pastor who teaches practices for training our souls. We strongly encourage you to get the book and sign up for the group to get the most out of the experience!
