Children’s ministries for preschool through fifth grade are overseen by Jessica Gobel, OUMC Director of Children’s Ministries (email@example.com or 608-783-3380 x25). Onalaska UMC has a Safe Sanctuaries Policy which protects our children and youth.
Onalaska UMC has a staffed nursery available during all regularly-scheduled worship services and Sunday School for infants and toddlers through age 4. The nursery (room 204) is located on the main floor down the long hallway from the sanctuary. Changing tables are available in the nursery.
Younger students have Sunday School classes during the school year from 9:45-10:45am each Sunday. The children, ages preschool through 5th grade begin Sunday School gather as a group for weekly themed activities and music, before going to their classrooms. These classes use the “Dig In” curriculum from Group Publishing as their guides. Dig In is interactive and uses lots of hands-on activities.
Sunday School at OUMC also has several “special” programs throughout the school year. In early December, all children have the chance to perform in a Christmas pageant. In May, the children create and participate in their own worship services. Each month the children’s offering is used to support a mission project. These projects rotate through helping groups within the church, within the Coulee Region, and globally.
During the summer months, we offer children’s church during both services. Kids ages 5-11 attend the regular worship service with their caregivers, then are dismissed following the kids’ moment to the Art Room (206), where they can enjoy an age-appropriate lessons, crafts, and other activities.
This year’s theme for June and July will be Emoji’s! Each week the children will focus on a specific emotion depicted by an ever popular, Emoji. Come and join in the fun! No need to register for Children’s Church – just show up!
Volunteers help with this ministry. Contact Jessica to assist with one or more weeks. In accordance with our Safe Sanctuaries Policy, a background check will be required if you do not have an up to date one on file with the church.
This summer’s VBS is Shipwrecked! Rescued by Jesus. We will be transforming the church into a landscape of islands and the sea. The kids will learn about how Jesus is always around to rescue them and always with them through life’s storms. Learn more and register here. Registration opens May 1. VBS is scheduled for Sunday, July 29 through Thursday, August 2, 2017. The cost is $10 per child, or $25 max for a family. Scholarships are available; let us know if you need assistance.
Vacation Bible School is always fun at OUMC! Our summer VBS program offers kids a week of adventure. We welcome all kids to join us, whether they attend OUMC or not. A light dinner is usually served at 4:45pm during the weekdays, with the program running 5:00-7:30pm. Parents and friends are invited to join us each day at 7:15pm for the closing celebration.
We always need LOTS of help from parents and friends to make VBS a success. Online registration and volunteer sign-up is available a month or two before the event.
