Children’s ministries for preschool through fifth grade are overseen by Jessica Gobel, OUMC Director of Children and Family Ministries (email@example.com or 608-783-3380 x25). Onalaska UMC has a Safe Sanctuaries Policy which protects our children and youth.
Onalaska UMC has a staffed nursery available during all regularly-scheduled worship services and Sunday School for infants and toddlers through age 4. The nursery (room 204) is located on the main floor down the long hallway from the sanctuary. Changing tables are available in the nursery.
Our Sunday School program is know as Journey With Jesus. Students preschool through 5th grade have classes during the school year from 9:45-10:45am each Sunday. The children begin Sunday School as a group for weekly themed activities and music, before going to their classrooms. These classes use the “Dig In” curriculum from Group Publishing as their guides. Dig In is interactive and uses lots of hands-on activities.
Sunday School at OUMC also has several “special” programs throughout the school year. In early December, all children have the chance to perform in a Christmas pageant. In May, the children create and participate in their own worship services. Each month the children’s offering is used to support a mission project. These projects rotate through helping groups within the church, within the Coulee Region, and globally.
*Children’s Church is currently on hold, due to COVID-19*
During the summer months, we offer children’s church during both services. Kids ages 4 and up attend the regular worship service with their caregivers, then are dismissed following the kids’ moment to the Art Room (206), where they can enjoy an age-appropriate lessons, crafts, and other activities. Older kids are welcome to come along to assist the leader with the activities.
Themes vary throughout the summer. Come and join in the fun! No need to register for Children’s Church – just show up!
Volunteers help with this ministry. Contact Jessica to assist with one or more weeks. In accordance with our Safe Sanctuaries Policy, a background check will be required if you do not have an up to date one on file with the church.
This summer’s virtual VBS is Rocky Railway! Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through. All are welcome to join us for a fun week of on-line, interactive activities.
Vacation Bible School is always fun at OUMC! Our summer VBS program offers kids a week of adventure. We welcome all kids to join us, whether they attend OUMC or not.
