We have an active youth program at OUMC which focuses on learning together from the Bible, real conversations about our faith, service project opportunities, and lots of fun! Middle and high school ministries are organized by Paul Bratsch, OUMC Director of Christian Discipleship (firstname.lastname@example.org or 608-783-3380).
Youth in grades 6-12 have Sunday Morning classes during the school year from 9:45-10:45am. The 6th graders meet upstairs in Room 209. 7th and 8th graders meet in the middle school room just off the Fellowship Hall, while the 9th-12th graders meet in the Youth Room on the lower level. In addition to Bible studies, the youth classes are also active in mission projects, and sometimes they slip out to a coffee shop.
Our Wednesday evening youth program at church is an energetic, fun, and popular opportunity for all youth, 5th-12th grade, to get to know each other, play some creative games, and grow in their faith! We begin with dinner together at 6:00 pm and then break off into age-specific classes. We emphasize knowing and loving God, youth-appropriate worship, and plenty of opportunities to discuss questions of life and faith. We often engage in fun, life-changing service projects. Newcomers and friends ALWAYS welcome!
Students in eighth grade participate in a year-long exploration of their faith guided by the pastor, individual mentors, and parents. Confirmation activities take place during SOAR on Wednesday evenings. Our emphasis is on helping kids learn to think about their own personal faith in Jesus Christ, rather than on rote memorization. After one-on-one discussions with the pastor, students may choose to confirm their faith and claim the vows made on their behalf in baptism. This usually happens in a special Sunday worship service late in April.
We also welcome older youth and adults who wish to explore their faith, learn about Christianity and Methodism, and renew their vows.
For more information about confirmation, contact Pastor Park Hunter (email@example.com or 608-783-3380 x22).
Every summer, our senior high youth group travels to a different mission site around the country for a week in order to learn from the local people, help with service projects, and see what God is up to in their lives and their community. We also offer periodic weekend mission trips and conferences for our middle school youth.
